What's the Difference Between All These Clips?!
Hearing aid loss prevention seems like a simple product to navigate on your own, yet we receive countless questions each month from curious customers trying to understand why there are so many options. There are two answers to this question:
First, many people view hearing aid loss prevention products as accessories, so there are many colors, styles and even characters (for younger users) to help you get creative and have fun with your hearing aid accessory.
Second, and perhaps more importantly, there ARE different sizes and styles of hearing aids. Selecting a clip/loss prevention product that will work for you requires that you understand a couple of simple terms that refer to hearing aid use.
To start, you’ll need to identify is the term monaural or binaural when narrowing down the product selection:
Monaural refers to users who have ONE hearing aid or Cochlear Implant (left or right is irrelevant in most cases).
Binaural refers to users who are using TWO hearing aids or Cochlear Implants.
Next, you’ll narrow down the options by identifying the ITE or BTE filtering options.
BTE stands for “Behind-the-Ear” hearing aids, which is the most common. Please note that BTE wearers DO still have the tube that goes over the ear, and a dome or earmold that is IN your ear, but the main part of your hearing aid (where you change the battery), is behind your ear.
ITE stands for “In-the-Ear” and applies to all hearing aids that are completely in your ear canal. Now, if this applies to you, please note that you’ll need to visit your hearing healthcare provider to have them install an eyelet onto your hearing aid before a loss prevention cord will work. DO NOT attempt to do this yourself as it will likely harm the hearing aid and void your warranty.
Once you’ve narrowed down the product selection with the above terms, the rest is up to you. Choose a color or style that suits your personality. Keep in mind that some product options will require that you measure your hearing aid for proper fit, including all of the EarGear products. If you’re looking for some inspiration, here are our customer-favorites here at ADCO:
Best BTE Binaural cord:
