The Sennheiser CX 80U is the USB-C successor to the popular CX 80S, updated for modern devices that no longer include a 3.5mm headphone jack. The core design and 9.7mm driver are carried over from the CX 80S, with one significant addition: a built-in digital-to-analog converter (DAC) integrated directly into the USB-C connector. This means no dongle, no adapter, and no additional cost to get lossless, hi-res audio from any USB-C device.

The built-in DAC supports 24-bit/96kHz digital audio playback, covering virtually all lossless and hi-res streaming content available on Apple Music, Tidal, Amazon Music HD, and similar services. The CX 80U is class-compliant and plug-and-play across iOS, iPadOS, Android, ChromeOS, macOS, Windows, and SteamOS devices. It connects and plays without any app, driver, or pairing process.

Sound signature is balanced with controlled low-end presence, clear midrange, and refined treble.
